We're going to Mars

Yeah, I get the point but his ability to successfully challenge commonly accepted technologies / practices is really cool. Needless to say, I think your job with oil and gas is safe for our lifetime.

Not to mention my wife's Tesla smokes vette's & camaros's...0 to 60 in 3.7 sec's

What did y'all get? We ordered a 75. I drove the 90 with the "Ludacris" option and decided I was not mature enough for that shit. Advertised 0-60 in 2.8, and it felt like every bit of that.

Five Billion and counting in Government Subsidies, so far... A monkey could find some success with those funds.

Last I heard Tesla is far from profitable, maybe the Martians can afford his government backed electric cars.

Lol! ^^ This. The only problem is that his facility won't be ready to actually make the vehicles.

Musk could say he built the fountain of youth and people would believe him. There is a big difference between saying and doing (as is evidenced by the Tesla factory outside of Reno).

In a way I agree, that there is a big difference between saying and doing. But he is taking our space exploration in a whole new direction. I am fond of this quote:

"I guess the question I'm asked the most often is: "When you were sitting in that capsule listening to the count-down, how did you feel?" Well, the answer to that one is easy. I felt exactly how you would feel if you were getting ready to launch and knew you were sitting on top of two million parts -- all built by the lowest bidder on a government contract."

John Glenn

Which shows how screwed up government endeavors can be. I am excited by Mr. Musk's vision.

Yes, and getting there is the "easy" part. Surviving there is supposed to be the hard part. Mars is a harsh mistress.

No BFS. It's a BFR, Big Fucking Rocket!

BFS = Big Fucking Spaceship. Towards the middle/end of the story

I'm no fucking geologist, but being that there is almost no chance fossil fuels exist on Mars, I predict these first few groups of well to do explorers lose their enthusiasm real fucking quick when they run low on supplies and Solar Power/batteries/wind/whatever still doesnt work worth a shit.

No worries though... I'm sure the taxpayers back here on Earth will gladly bail them out, we'll be more than used to that shit by then.
