First accessory? First upgrade?

Recovery gear, both off road and on road. IE. gloves, towstrap, shackle, jumper cables, and a small tool kit. Also a four way tire iron is great to have for changing a flat, if you know how to use it it makes getting the new tire up on the lugs.

Thanks!!! I have most of that already except for the 4 way tire iron!

first upgrade to my jk was....

I bought new headlights. I have speaker evo ii a thousand times better than the stock headlights. I then changed the speakers to db 651 shallow mount in the speaker bar and added focal ps 165v to the front. i also swapped out the sub to a shallow mount pioneer ts-sw2002d2. i added sound deadening tape and stuffed the speaker boxes with poly.

First time I went out, I got stuck. I wish my first mod/accessory was recovery gear. I did some DIY stuff; grab handles, short antenna, etc.

Definitely gonna do the headlights. The backcountry comes with a badass Alpine 9 speaker system, so I will leave that alone for now!

That's my fear, so I will be purchasing all that this weekend!!

Strap, shackles (2 minimum), WINCH (if your going to wheel), snatch block and a tree saver. You should be good aside from getting a flat on the trail. I usually count on SOMEONE having a highlift. Lol

Hands down your first mod should be a winch if you are wanting to do any off roading. You need to be able to pull yourself out in the event you are alone.

I do plan on getting one. But for the record, I'm so new at this thay I don't foresee myself riding alone at first!!

I personally would buy LED headlights first, if I had it to do over again. My Trucklites made a huge difference!

Since Eddie mentioned recovery gear, here is a link to his write up on the subject. I now have everything, but the chain and folding shovel.

This is how things have gone with my YJ.

Truck lites
1" shackles
31" tires
Tow strap and tire deflator
2.5" lift
Rock hard rock sliders
Locker or bumper/winch setup will be next.

The JK has been a different story as we unfortunately had to start over. So our 12' Rubicon is getting parts moved over from the 08' Rubicon.

Truck lite head lights
Locking hood pins
Tow strap and tire deflator
Superchips trail dash 2

Level 8 wheels

I'd say some armor and recovery gear is items that should be on the top of what ever you do. I remember 4 wheeler magazine had an excellent article going over a list of first items to get.
