Our medical privacy rules get in the way. If all of our private medical information was always provided to the government, then they would have had all the data they needed to understand cause and effect.

But I appreciate that the government does not have all of my private medical information since privacy is important to me. I think that now medical data is shared at least at the state level, after approval of the patient.

every 3rd party of interest has your medical data; don't be fooled into thinking HIPPA means something.
It's only there if you or your family member asks (unless you've given consent) but otherwise, if they've paid for access, they have access.

And pretty confident in stating that if it's not being sold, it's been hacked and out on the dark web.
