Show Off Your Guns!

Like my sister in Oregon could buy one and “sell” it to me?
Unfortunately I think it has to be "vertical". My mom in FL was able to gift it to me. All on the up and up through an FFL and the DOJ. Grandparent to grandkid, parent to kid, etc. I'm pretty sure you can do private party transfer though, if you can find someone selling one, would just cost a lot more in CA.

Exactly. Intra-familial transfer is legal and only needs to go through an FFL if being done between states. Private party sale in easy to find in CA but you gotta be willing to spend $1500 on a $500 gun. The 43x is a great gun though!

Just got off the phone with my gun shop. They said it’s only allowed if it’s a parent or grandparent that lives out of state. They can transfer it directly but it needs to be registered and all that other shiz.
Grandson! you old SOB, where have you been hiding?

Even if the firearm is not on the approved list? how much does it cost to register in the land of the not free?

Yeah, he said it doesn’t have to be on the roster if it comes from one of them. Siblings and kids need not apply. He did mention a handful of forms need to be filled out but I zoned out after he told me that. Stupid ass state.

I’m almost positive if you have a child that lives out of state you can do the transfer of off roster firearms. It goes both ways. Parent to kid, kid to parent, etc.

Perhaps you’re right, just googled it and their AI said it’s legal if done through an FFL. Guess my shop knows jack. 😡

Thanks, guess I’m not SOL yet! 👍🏻
I tried following all the back and forth. Maybe I'm missing something but can't you just go to another state, buy the gun you want and then you have it and drive back to CA? Why use a CA FFL?

Because then you wouldn’t be able to register it in CA. Yes you could do it but it would then be an illegally possessed firearm. If you did that say, in Utah, you don’t have to be a resident to purchase there. But if you ever used it for protection you’d be royally fucked in a criminal AND civil lawsuit.

I didn't realize you had to register guns in CA but sadly not really surprised. That state is something else. I'm sure the gun registery keeps crime down though.

What’s sad and amazing is, I remember being amazed to hear there are states you don’t have to register. Wish it was like that here.

You may buy a rifle or shotgun in a state you’re not a resident of and take possession if allowed by both jurisdictions.

You may buy a handgun or a serialized receiver out of state. However, you cannot take possession of it until it’s shipped to an FFL in your state of residence and you fill out a Form 4473 and pass the required background check.
