Figure out if it's the front or rear, as Mike stated, the sensors are not potted and over time oil seeps in and causes them to fail...

I've never used a spreader and do it by feel but, you should have to tap in the shims. You can get a good feel for preload as well when...

Starting depth is usually .042 on the JK is usually a good starting point and going up from there. I’d actually just try getting closer...
